The Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk University of Technology cordially invites you to a seminar that will take place on December 11, 2025, at the Faculty of Chemistry, Gdańsk University of Technology, at 13:15 in Jacek Namieśnik’s Auditorium, building No. 6.
Title: Function-Tailored Two-Dimensional Materials for Environmental Sensing and Biomedical Applications
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Mohsen Adeli, Freie Universität Berlin, Germany
Abstract
The aim of Prof. Adela's presentation is to present the latest research achievements in new polymer architectures and their environmental and biomedical applications, including chemo- and photothermal therapies, interactions with pathogens, diabetic wound healing and atherosclerosis treatment.
Biography
Professor Mohsen Adeli was born in 1972. In 1997, he graduated from Lorestan University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He also received his master's degree (2001) and doctoral degree (2005) in organic chemistry from the University of Tabriz. From 2005 to 2013, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Macromolecular Chemistry at Lorestan University. Since 2013, he has been a full professor in this department. Furthermore, since 2014, the Professor has been a visiting professor at the Institute of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Free University of Berlin, Germany. He is currently the supervisor of eight doctoral students, three master's theses, and one post-doc researcher. His Scopus Hirsch index is 46, and his citations and publications number 6,000 and 207, respectively.
The Professor's research interests include biodegradable biomaterials and polymers and their biomedical applications; carbohydrate-based metal-organic structures; organic structures as intelligent nanozymes for wound healing and antibacterial applications; and the design and synthesis of new polymer architectures as intelligent drug delivery systems.
Since 2019, Professor Adeli has been a member of the evaluation committee of the National Science Centre, Poland. Furthermore, he is also a member of the organizing committee of the International Symposium on Functional Nanomaterials: Chemistry and Biomedical Applications (since 2020) and the review committee of the symposium on low-dimensional nanomaterials (since 2019).
The Professor has authored over 20 invited lectures (2018–2024), including:
- Waste streams; Valuable sources of recyclable products (5th International Symposium on Materials from Renewable Energy Sources, North Dakota State University, USA, 2025)
- Design and synthesis of two-dimensional polymers for pathogen blocking (Polymat, San Sebastian, 2024, Spain)
- Functional two-dimensional polyols for biomedical applications (18th International Royan Congress on Stem Cell Biology and Technology, 2022).
In addition to numerous scientific publications in renowned international journals, the professor also holds eight patents, two of which are international patents.
