Congratulations to Julia Jaworska on her successful MSc thesis defence
We are very happy to congratulate Julia Jaworska on the successful defence of her MSc thesis on the human milk lipidome in colostrum and mature milk from mothers of preterm and full-term infants.
Julia joined our team in 2024 and continued her research in human milk lipidomics from her engineering project into her MSc studies. Her work involved LC–MS-based lipidomic analysis aimed at characterising changes associated with lactation stage and preterm versus full-term delivery.
The thesis was supervised by Weronika Hewelt-Belka. The research was carried out within the NCN OPUS LAP project “Digestion of human milk with regard to premature infants (MilkDigest)” (grant no. 2022/47/I/NZ9/02749). We hope that the results will soon become part of a scientific publication.

GALATEA technical meeting in Gdańsk
On 10–11 September 2026, the lipidOmics group hosted an hybrid technical meeting within the GALATEA MSCA Staff Exchanges project at Gdańsk University of Technology.
We were joined in Gdańsk by colleagues from the University of Cádiz for two days of practical discussions focused on experimental and data-analysis workflows within the project.
The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to work directly on shared analytical problems, exchange expertise and define the next steps for joint research within GALATEA.

Plenary lecture at S-DISCO Days 2026
Dr. Weronika Hewelt-Belka gave a plenary lecture focused on extracellular vesicle lipidomics, highlighting analytical challenges, current limitations, and emerging perspectives in the field.
