He was born on July 6, 1946 in Bydgoszcz. He graduated from secondary school (Secondary School No. 1) in 1963 and began studies at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology. He graduated in 1968, obtaining the degree and title of M.Sc. in chemistry specializing in light organic synthesis. In 1970, he started working at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology, successively as an assistant trainee, assistant and senior assistant. From September 1976 to March 1977 he completed a research internship at the University of Rostock (Germany) in the team headed by Prof. G. Schott under the supervision of Prof. H. Kelling. In 1978 he received a Ph.D. in chemical sciences (Faculty of Chemistry, GUT), supervisor: W. Wojnowski, Ph.D, D.Sc., Eng. on the basis of a doctoral dissertation and was promoted to the position of assistant professor. In the years 1983-1986 he completed an internship at the Technischen Univeristät Braunschweig (at the Institute of Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry) in the team led by Prof. R. Tacke as a scholarship holder of the Humboldt Foundation. He was awarded the postdoctoral degree in organic chemistry by the Council of the Chemical Faculty of the Gdańsk University of Technology on January 29, 1991 on the basis of the dissertation entitled "Nucleophilic Si-S bond cleavage of silanothiols catalyzed with amines". In 1992, he completed a scientific internship at Universität Karlsruhe, again as a scholarship holder of the Humboldt Foundation. In the years 1994-2002 he was employed as an associate professor at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, during which he undertook a number of foreign internships: in 1996-1999 in Karlsruhe in the research group led by Prof. Gerhard Fritz. In 2002 he also worked at the same University in the group of Prof. Hansgeorg Schnöckel. He was appointed professor of Gdańsk University of Technology in June 2002. He was awarded the title of professor of chemical sciences in 2005. In the years 2003-2009 he was the head of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry Gdańsk University of Technology.
