The Gdańsk Academic Chemistry Consortium was established on 9 July 2015 with an aim to better make use of the joint scientific potential of the Chemistry Departments of Gdańsk University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk. This will help to ensure greater efficiency of scientific research and teaching, as well as secure funding for those activities from national and EU funds.
The ceremonial signing of the agreement on the establishment of the consortium took place in the campus of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdansk after its acceptance by both Faculty Councils. The agreement was signed by the Deans of the Faculties: prof. Sławomir Milewski, PhD. Eng. and prof. Piotr Stepnowski, PhD, in the presence of the Rectors: of Gdańsk University of Technology - prof. Henryk Krawczyk, PhD. Eng. and of the University of Gdańsk - prof. Bernarda Lammek, as well as Vice-Deans of both institutions.
The event has formalised the cooperation between the Faculties, carried out for many years. A new organisational form is expected to increase the intensity and effectiveness of activities, not only in terms of jointly implemented projects, but also in the area of teaching, with particular emphasis on PhD dissertations in all areas of chemical sciences: chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, environmental protection and chemical technology. This will foster the development of young scientists through joint implementation of research projects and international mobility. It will also facilitate the dissemination of the results of scientific work and research and their widespread implementation.
