„Know-how”

Instruments and software available in our laboratories, operated by members of the research group:

  • X-ray diffraction
  • FT-IR
  • UV-Vis
  • Gas chromatography
  • NMR
  • Schlenk technique, vacuum lines for the synthesis of moisture- and oxidation-sensitive compounds

Our group is involved in studies on the complex compounds of transition metals with ligands featuring silicon-sulfur bond and nitrogen ligands, also of natural origin [1-13]. We focus our scientific interest on the design and synthesis of the complexes exhibiting magnetic, luminescent and catalytic properties [7-13]. We are also engaged in the synthesis of new ligands and complex compounds in solution, including the use of Schlenk technique crucial for manipulation of air-sensitive compounds. So far, we have described the structures and physicochemical properties of a wide range of simple, mononuclear complexes, small clusters and coordination polymers [2-13]. Additionally, as a part of structural studies, we are interested in exploring the properties of weak interactions formed by the (silane)thiol functional group [14-16].

The obtained compounds are investigated with a wide range of methods: the molecular structures are determined with the use of X-Ray (XRD), infrared spectroscopy in solid and solution (FT-IR), as well as UV-visible light (UV-Vis) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). All these measurements are performed by the research group members operating the instruments available in our department, whereas magnetic and luminescent properties are identified together in cooperation with other scientific groups from Polish and foreign universities. It enables the members of our group to take part in domestic and foreign internships.

We publish our research results in the renown journals in the field of inorganic and general chemistry. Our work has been featured on the covers of international journals: European Journal of Inorganic Chemistry [3*] and "New Journal of Chemistry" [14*]. We make sure, that Students working in our laboratory present the results of their work during chemical conferences, usually they become the co-authors of our publications e.g. [2, 5, 6, 12, 13, 16].
