Dr. Eng. Henryk Strzelecki | Faculty of Chemistry at the Gdańsk University of Technology

On 25.01.2025, Henryk Strzelecki, PhD, Eng. (born 17.12.1938) passed away. He was a retired long-time employee of the Department of Physical Chemistry. He spent his entire professional life associated with the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk University of Technology. In 1962, he started working at the Department of Physical Chemistry, initially as an assistant, and from 1971, after defending his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Professor Włodzimierz Libuś, which focused on the properties of solutions of transition metal perchlorates in acetonitrile, as an assistant professor and senior lecturer. Simultaneously, within the existing Department of Marine Corrosion at the Department of Physical Chemistry, he began scientific cooperation with an outstanding specialist in the field of anti-corrosion protection, the later Professor Romuald Juchniewicz. As a result of combining his work in these two fields, he became a widely recognized authority and advisor in the field of electrochemistry, particularly in its practical aspects, which were crucial to industry.

He gained universal recognition during the period of difficulties related to the operation of car batteries. Drivers in need of assistance formed long queues at his laboratory.

Another area of doctor Henryk Strzelecki's interest was teaching, and especially laboratory exercises in physical chemistry, which were conducted in his laboratory under his guidance.

He took over these duties from Professor Zofia Libuś. This work was his true passion He dedicated himself to the continuous development of the laboratory and maintained discipline both among the students and the staff members conducting the classes.

Henryk Strzelecki's private hobby was fishing, and particularly fly fishing. He was also an outstanding expert in this field.
