Biotechnology students’ project receives funding

News
A Team Research Project supervised by Iwona Gabriel, DSc, Eng., Associate Professor at Gdańsk University of Technology, from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biochemistry, and Sławomir Makowiec, DSc, Associate Professor at Gdańsk University of Technology, from the Department of Organic Chemistry, has received funding in the first edition of the Quality Enhancement Competition for Team Research Projects (ZPB) at the university’s Faculty of Chemistry.

The project, “Development of synthesis conditions and analysis of the properties of quinolone derivatives as potential antimicrobial agents”, combines organic synthesis with microbiological research. A team of biotechnology students will develop conditions for preparing new derivatives and investigate their activity against bacteria and fungi of the genus Candida.

The synthesis work is being carried out in collaboration with the Department of Organic Chemistry, while the biological evaluation of the compounds will take place at the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biochemistry. The team is led by Maciej Garliński.

Congratulations to Maciej Garliński, Katarzyna Brzóska, the entire student team and their academic supervisors!
