On Sunday, the 14th of April 2019, in the morning, his Magnificence, the rector of the Gdańsk University of Technology, Prof. Jacek Namieśnik, died suddenly. Dean of the Chemical Faculty served for four terms, previously Vice-Dean for two terms, Head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry. A long-term member of the PG Senate. He was born on the 10th of December 1949 in Mogilno. In 1967-72, he studied at the Faculty of Chemical PG and received his doctorate on the 18th of October 1978. He obtained the degree of Doctor of Habilitated Chemical Sciences on the 12th of April 1985, and in 1998 he became a full professor. Outstanding specialist in analytical chemistry and environmental chemistry. He was a member and chairman of many scientific institutions in Poland and abroad. He was twice awarded an honorary doctorate, once as a Doctor Honoris Causa. Two-time winner of the Award of the Prime Minister and two-time Minister of NiSW. He was awarded i.a. night's Cross, Officer's and Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, and the Medal of the National Education Commission. Honor to his memory!".
