dr. Francisco Pena-Pereira

Francisco Pena-Pereira obtained his Chemistry degree at the University of Vigo (Spain) in 2005 and graduated first in his class in the area of Analytical Chemistry. He obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Vigo in 2009 under the supervision of Prof. Bendicho and Dr. Lavilla with outstanding marks (European Doctorate and Extraordinary award), and the Habilitation in Chemistry from the Gdańsk University of Technology (Poland) in 2018. His research interests include, among others, i) development of analytical methodologies involving miniaturized sample preparation approaches and spectrometric techniques, ii) implementation of nanomaterials in miniaturized systems for analyte sensing, and iii) application of cheap and easily available materials toward the development of less hazardous, safer and more sustainable analytical methodologies. F. Pena-Pereira has carried out different scientific stays with prominent researchers of his field, namely Profs. Psillakis (Technical University of Crete, Greece, 3 months), Prof. Canals (University of Alicante, Spain, 1 month), Prof. Duarte (University of Aveiro & CESAM, Portugal, 2 years) and Prof. Namieśnik (Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland, 2 years). He has authored or co-authored 67 scientific contributions, including 57 publications in scientific journals (48 in 1 st quartile, 27 in 1 st decile), 2 books (invited as Editor) and 8 book chapters. The contributions accumulate 1940 citations, giving an H-index of 25 (source: Scopus, February, 2019). The publications include, among others: Green Chem. (4), ChemSusChem (1), Anal. Chem. (3), TrAC Trends Anal. Chem. (7), Anal. Chim. Acta (9), or Sens. Actuat. B (2). Furthermore, he holds a national patent. He is member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Crit. Rev. Anal. Chem. and has participated as a referee of over 175 scientific contributions in more than 40 scientific journals (e.g., ACS Nano, Green Chem., ChemSusChem, Anal. Chem., TrAC Trends Anal. Chem., Lab Chip, ACS Sustain. Chem. Eng., Anal. Chim. Acta, Sci. Total Environ., Crit. Rev. Anal. Chem., or Talanta). In addition, he has been invited to participate as an expert in the Spanish State Research Agency.
