Short CV

Dr. Miodrag Gužvić

Dr. Gužvić is a reseach associate and a group leader at the Chair of Experimental Medicine and Therapy Research (group "Selection and adaptation of metastasis founder cells"), Faculty of Medicine, University of Regensburg, Regensburg, Germany.

He obtained his pre-doctoral degrees in molecular biology, physiology, and biochemistry at the University of Belgrade, Serbia (2002 and 2005). Then, he joined the Chair of Experimental Medicine and Therapy Research at the University of Regensburg where he completed his doctoral thesis (2011).

Dr. Gužvić started his research in the field of cancer biology at the Department of Radiobiology and Molecular Genetics, Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Belgrade, Serbia (2000 – 2006), where he was analyzing the presence of mutations in oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes in human cancer samples. Then, he joined Cancer and Stem Cell Research Center, Department of Pediatrics and Human Development, College of Human Medicine, Michigan State University, E. Lansing, USA (2004- 2005), where he analyzed the effects of chemical carcinogens on inter- and intra-cellular signaling of hepatic stem cells. Next, Dr. Gužvić took a short detour from cancer biology and studied the genetics of neuromuscular disorders at the Division of Clinical and Molecular Neurogenetics, Department of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Lübeck, Lübeck, Germany (2005- 2006). Finally, in 2006 he joined the Chair of Experimental Medicine and Therapy Research, Faculty of Medicine, University of Regensburg, Germany, where he is actively investigating molecular characteristics of metastasis founder cells.

Since 2012, he is visiting assistant professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Novi Sad, Serbia, where he is teaching basic courses on molecular biology and genetics. In addition, he is involved in teaching at the University of Regensburg.
