Winners
Two researchers from the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biochemistry: dr hab. inż. Iwona Gabriel and mgr inż. Karolina Pelka are the winners of the OPUS23 and PRELUDIUM21 competitions organized by National Science Centre.

The first project qualified for funding (OPUS23) contains a proposal for comprehensive interdisciplinary research aimed at assessing the molecular basis for the rational design of new antifungal agents targeting fungal topoisomerase II. The grant will be implemented by the research group: Structural Biochemistry and Enzymology, headed by dr hab. inż. Iwona Gabriel, whose main area of interest is the identification and characterization of new molecular targets for antifungal chemotherapy, in particular enzymes involved in amino acid biosynthesis pathways or related to DNA metabolism. The project qualified for funding is the second one NCN grant implemented currently under the supervision of dr hab. inż. Iwona Gabriel.

The second project qualified for funding (PRELUDIUM21) includes research aimed at demonstrating the antigenotoxic and antimutagenic effects of bee pollen extracts obtained from Polish apiaries and testing their antiviral potential. The grant will be implemented in the research group: Biotechnology of compounds of natural origin with antimicrobial activity, headed by dr hab. inz. Piotr Szweda, whose main area of interest is the characteristics of the biotechnological and pharmacological potential of the microbiota of bee products. As a part of the project implemented by mgr inż. Karolina Pełka, cooperation with the research team of prof. Dimitrios Mossialos from the University of Thessaly (Greece), who is a recognized authority in the field of antimicrobial activity of bee products, including antiviral activity will be established.
