Professor Janusz Pawliszyn was a guest of the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology. He is a great scientist, graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry of Gdańsk Tech in 1978. Currently, He is employed at the University of Waterloo in Canada. Recently, He was entered into the Golden Book of Gdańsk Tech.

The distinction in the form of an entry in the Golden Book of the Gdańsk University of Technology is a distinction awarded by the Rector, prof. Krzysztof Wilde. This is a special form of honoring people associated with the Gdańsk University of Technology, whose professional activity for the university as well as professional activity in various fields of scientific, economic, cultural, sports, social, organizational or public activity brings pride to Gdańsk University of Technology.

Prof. Janusz Pawliszyn is the creator of the SPME – sample preparation technique called solid phase microextraction, which uses a coating on the fiber for the selective isolation of analytes from blood, saliva, urine, plasma.

The main area of His interests is the development and application of the SPME technique and combined techniques, including chromatographic techniques. Professor Pawliszyn studies the use of computational and modeling techniques to increase the efficiency of sample preparation, chromatographic separations and detection. The Scientist belongs to the group of the 10 most influential people in analytical sciences in the world (Hirsch index is 112). Besides, He is the editor-in-chief of Trends in Analytical Chemistry (TraC), Green Analytical Chemistry and Analytica Chemica Acta.

Only in 2023, for His scientific activity, He was awarded the AJP Martin Medal of the Chromatographic Society and the CIC Medal of the Chemical Institute of Canada. He is also a laureate of Polish distinctions, the Medal of Andrzej Waksmundzki of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Medal of Maria Skłodowska-Curie of the Polish Chemical Society.

The meeting hosted by prof. Agata Kot-Wasik, Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, was also an opportunity to exchange views on research work in the field of chemistry conducted at both universities, as well as to invite prof. Pawliszyn to deliver a series of lectures for researchers, PhD students and students interested in the field of chromatography. The meeting was also attended by the Professor's wife, Marek Tobiszewski – Vice-Dean for Science at the Faculty of Chemistry, and Szczepan Gapiński from the Rector's Office.
