Prof. Janusz Rachoń becomes a member of the Historical and Program Board of the ESC
The Historical and Program Board of the ESC appointed prof. Janusz Rachoń "with gratitude for taking up the social mission of keeping the Solidarity movement attractive and up-to-date, cherishing the memory of this peaceful revolution as the founding myth of common Europe, making Solidarity a source of inspiration and hope".
According to the statute of the ESC, the ESC Historical and Program Board is appointed by the president of the city of Gdańsk, in agreement with the other founders, i.e. the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Self-government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, NSZZ “Solidarity” and the Solidarity Center Foundation. This body gives opinions on the strategic action plan of the ESC, the long-term program and the current activities of the institution, submits motions for their content, and may also submit proposals for changes to the ESC statute. Bogdan Borusewicz is the chairman of the Board in the term of office 2021-2025.
Janusz Rachoń is a professor of chemical sciences, and also the author and co-author of 14 patents, as well as the co-author of the technology of four new-generation drugs against osteoporosis implemented into production. In the years 2002-2008 he was the rector of Gdańsk University of Technology. He also performed many functions outside the university, including the function of the chairman of the Council of the National Center for Research and Development and the senator of the Republic of Poland of the 7th term. Among the professor's numerous decorations and distinctions there are the Jan Hevelius Scientific Award of the City of Gdańsk and the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
