HumMilkPres project - obtained funding in the Small Grant Scheme 2020 competition
The research project entitled. " Storage of human milk in unfrozen state under high pressure-subzero temperature conditions – new method of preservation" received funding in the Small Grant Scheme 2020 competition, announced by the National Centre for Research and Development under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and the Applied Research Programme.
The Principal Investigator is Dr. Edyta Malinowska-Pańczyk. The team implementing the project also include Dr. Dorota Martysiak-Żurowska, and Dr. Barbara Kusznierewicz.
The project with the budget of 869 212,50 PLN will be carried out in the Department of Chemistry, Technology and Biotechnology of Food, Faculty of Chemistry, Gdańsk University of Technology.
The objective of the project is developing an new procedure for preservation and storage of human milk that will minimize the loss of nutrients and biologically active components. This goal will be achieved by designing and building a prototype of a device for generating pressure at subzero temperature, intended for samples with a volume of 100-150 ml and determining the changes of selected nutrients and biologically active components and the degree of microbiota inactivation in human milk during storage at subzero temperature and high pressure in the conditions when the water remain unfrozen.
