Romuald Szczęsny Prize is a prestigious award granted since 2002 by the Mayor of Gdynia to the most talented graduates of the Gdańsk University of Technology. The main goal of the award is to commemorate the prematurely deceased resident of Gdynia, a professor at the Gdańsk University of Technology and a former dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

In 2022, the award went to our graduate, M.Sc. Edith Pilate. Edyta Pilate is a graduate of Material Engineering at the Faculty of Chemistry and a PhD student (discipline: Chemical Sciences). She received the award for her diploma thesis entitled "Hybrid systems for the release of antibacterial compounds composed of a polyurethane matrix printed in FDM technology and a hydrogel layer" realized under the supervision of dr hab. Eng. Justyna Kucińska-Lipki, prof. of the university at the Department of Polymer Technology. On behalf of the Mayor of Gdynia, the award was presented on October 4, 2022 by Marek Stępa, the Head of the Heritage Protection Department of the Gdynia City Hall, during the session of the Gdańsk Tech Senate inaugurating the academic year 2022/2023.

For the same work, the author was also awarded the Diploma of the Year statuette, which was awarded for the best thesis completed in 2021 at the Faculty of Chemistry. The ceremony took place on May 31, 2022, and the award was presented by prof. Krzysztof Wilde, rector of Gdańsk Tech and dr hab. Eng. Marek Dzida, Vice-Rector for Education.

M.Sc. Edyta Piłat continues her research by implementing her doctoral project at the Department of Polymer Technology, in the research team of dr hab. Eng. Justyna Kucińska-Lipki, prof. the university. The laureate deals with the development of innovative hydrogel compositions, modified with active substances, for use in 3D bio-printing.

Congratulations to both ladies.
