Passed away Prof. Włodzimierz Zwierzykowski | Faculty of Chemistry at the Gdańsk University of Technology

Professor Zwierzykowski was a well-known and respected scientist and expert in the field of chemistry and technology of fats and surfactants.

The entire scientific work of Professor Zwierzykowski is a testimony to a rational approach to science, where fundamental research is for the use of scientific results in industrial practice. Professor was perfectly applying the physicochemical properties of surfactants and the physical and chemical properties of fats for specific requirements of novel technologies that were developed for the needs of obtaining new products in the sectors of fats and household chemicals, the paint/varnish industry, the plastics industry and for environmental protection.

Professor Zwierzykowski had promoted six PhD candidates, two of whom where later granted the Professor Title and one the Doctor of Science degree. The Professor was a member of the scientific councils of the Institute of Surface Chemistry and Catalysis of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Industrial Chemistry and the Institute of Meat and Fat Industry. He was also a member of the Committee of Food Technology and Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Committee of Surface Physicochemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (the Cracow Branch), and the Chairman of the Gdańsk Branch of the Polish Chemical Society.

He will always be remembered as a kind person, valued colleague and a perfectionist in his professional work.

The Dean and the Academic Community of the Faculty of Chemistry of Gdańsk University of Technology express deepest condolences to the family of Professor Zwierzykowski.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday, 6^th December, at 11.30, at the Municipal Cemetery in Sopot.

In 2019, we hosted Mr. Professor at his 90th birthday jubilee.
