Professor Artur Zieliński has died

We announce with deep sorrow that on May 9, 2025, passed away Professor Artur Zieliński, a long-standing faculty member of the Department of Corrosion and Electrochemistry. He was an exceptional individual and a gifted scientist who dedicated his entire professional life to the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk University of Technology.
His academic career began in 2004 at the Department of Electrochemistry, Corrosion, and Materials Engineering, following the defense of his doctoral dissertation, which he completed under the supervision of Professor Kazimierz Darowicki. The dissertation focused on electrochemical studies utilizing electrochemical noise, reflecting his passion for exploring new frontiers in science.
In 2016, he obtained the degree of doctor with habilitation, and his research focused on advanced measurement techniques in electrochemistry and corrosion. His contributions to the development of methods such as atomic force microscopy (AFM) combined with electrochemical measurements positioned him as one of the leading authorities in this field.
Professor Artur Zieliński was not only a remarkable scientist but also an exceptionally talented educator. He skillfully combined expert knowledge with anecdotes and film quotes, making even the most complex topics accessible and engaging for students. His passion for mathematics and his teaching abilities enriched the education of many generations of students.
Privately, he was an enthusiast of science fiction and classic cinema, with a particular fondness for the Star Wars universe (original canon). His enthusiasm for these subjects was contagious, and conversations with him were always inspiring and emotionally engaging.
To all of us, Artur was a kind and warm-hearted person, always ready to offer support regardless of the challenges we faced. His presence in the Department of Corrosion and Electrochemistry was a great source of encouragement and positive energy. The memory of him will remain with us forever. He will be deeply missed.
