Research Grant Implemented in Cooperation with INRAE Institutes (France)
We are pleased to announce that Adam Macierzanka, PhD, DSc, Eng., university professor, is a co-applicant in an international research project that has received funding from the French government under the ANR-AAPG-2025 programme for the years 2026–2029.
Project title: Impact of legumes dietary fibres on piglet small intestinal mucosa (MucFib)
Project budget: €336,234
The research is coordinated by the INRAE-PEGASE institute and carried out in cooperation with three other INRAE research institutes in France (INRAE-UE3P, INRAE-BIA, INRAE-UNH), as well as the Faculty of Chemistry at Gdańsk University of Technology.
The MucFib project aims to investigate how dietary fibre derived from various plant sources affects the health and function of the small intestine, with particular emphasis on the protective role of the intestinal mucus layer. The research combines in vitro and in vivo experiments to elucidate the mechanisms of interaction between soluble fibre fractions and the colloidal structural components of the mucus layer, as well as intestinal epithelial cells. The expected outcome is the identification of the most beneficial fibre sources in animal and human nutrition, promoting intestinal barrier integrity and optimized nutrient absorption.
The team led by Prof. Adam Macierzanka is the only foreign partner in the project and is responsible for the implementation of one of the four work packages (Work Package 4, WP4). The planned activities at the Faculty of Chemistry include, among others, the employment of a postdoctoral researcher from France in the years 2027–2028.
We congratulate our team on their participation in this prestigious international research endeavour and wish them continued scientific success.
