Selenium-enriched broccoli sprouts. Certified reference materials in a PhD thesis

Chintankumar Padariya, this year's graduate of the Doctoral School, conducts research on certified reference materials (CRMs). They are key tools in scientific research, quality control and analytical measurements. They guarantee precision and repeatability of laboratory tests, acting as reference substances with precisely defined composition. CRMs are widely used in environmental studies, food safety, pharmaceuticals and clinical diagnostics to verify methodologies, calibrate instruments and assess measurement uncertainty. Their role is crucial for ensuring standardization across industries, regulatory compliance and the development of scientific research.

Young green leaves and sprouts can be a valuable element of the human diet. One such nutrient-rich product is broccoli sprouts, which are characterized by a high content of essential elements and bioactive compounds. Microgreens not only provide essential nutrients, but are also a natural source of selenium - a key trace element with significant health benefits.

Searching for a More Affordable Method of Producing “Green Hydrogen”

Mariusz Szkoda

Mariusz Szkoda, PhD, Eng., from the Faculty of Chemistry of Gdańsk University of Technology and Anna Ilnicka, PhD, DSc, from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń aim to develop an innovative method of synthesizing stable catalysts based on nitrides.

The aim of the project is the effective and economical production of hydrogen. The scientists obtained funding from the National Science Centre under the OPUS programme in the amount of almost PLN 2 million.

Synthesis of New Bio-Polyols in the Research of a Graduate of the Doctoral School

Sustainable design of polymer materials, especially those friendly to the environment, is an important area of research in materials engineering. This topic is explored by Adam Olszewski, a graduate of the Doctoral School of Gdańsk University of Technology, who focuses on developing alternative methods of polyurethane (PU) synthesis independent of petrochemical raw materials.

From Gdańsk to Cambridge – Research Supporting the Development of Disease Therapies

Krzysztof Bojarski

Krzysztof Kamil Bojarski, PhD from the Department of Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry of Gdańsk University of Technology, and a recipient of the Bekker Scholarship awarded by the National Agency for Academic Exchange, will start a research project at the University of Cambridge. He will collaborate with the team of Professor David Wales, who is considered a leader in the field of computational chemistry.
