Results of the Radium Learning Through Research Programs competition

Radium

Eleven creative projects designed to support particularly talented students engaging in research activities in topics related to priority research areas have received funding from the Radium Learning Through Research Programs for a total value of more than PLN 229,000. Implementation of the projects will make it possible to finance the costs of ongoing research by second-level students in Individual Research Studies.

Monika Śmiełowska, PhD, Eng., is the winner of the Prime Minister's Award!

Our graduate - Mrs. Monika Śmiełowska, PhD, DSc, was granted the Prime Minister's Award for an outstanding doctoral dissertation.

Monika Śmiełowska completed her doctoral thesis at the Department of Analytical Chemistry. The thesis was entitled: "New solutions in the analytics of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) for samples with a complex matrix composition". The defense of the dissertation took place on 30 September 2021. The supervisor of the thesis was prof. Bożena Czekała, PhD, DSc, Eng. (Gdańsk University of Technology), and its reviewers were: prof. Bogusław Buszewski, PhD, DSc (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń) and Sylwia Bajkacz, PhD, DSc, Eng.

Sport achievements of our Student!

Bogna Świtała

One does not live by football alone. We would like to inform all sports lovers about the successes of Ms. Bogna Świtała, a second-year student of Chemical Technology.

Our colleague managed to gain ranking points at the international billiards competition held in Treviso, Italy, on November 25-28. The points gained are even more satisfying as it was the Student's first performance at the Euro Tour tournament.

Winners of the OPUS 23, PRELUDIUM 21 and POLONEZ BIS 2 competitions

On December 6th the results of the OPUS 23, PRELUDIUM 21 and POLONEZ BIS 2 calls for proposals have been announced (those submitted in June 2022). During this edition the National Science Center received 4,299 proposals with a total value of over 3 billion PLN.

After a two-stage expert's assessments 576 applications with a value of almost 491 million PLN have been finally qualified for funding. Based on the above, the numerical success rate is 13.4%.

Passed away Prof. Włodzimierz Zwierzykowski

It is with our deepest regret to inform that Professor Włodzimierz Zwierzykowski passed away on 28th November 2022, aged 93. For many years, he was an academic teacher at the Gdańsk University of Technology. The Professor also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry (1975 – 1978), the Vice-Rector of our University (1978 – 1981) and the head of Department of Fat Technology (1974 – 1999).

Professor Zwierzykowski was a well-known and respected scientist and expert in the field of chemistry and technology of fats and surfactants.

Fahrenheit Scholarship awarded for the implementation of the project at the FoCh

On November 16th this year, the results of the competition for scholarships for foreign doctoral students funded by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk in consultation with Fahrenheit Universities were announced. Maria Alaide de Oliveira from the Brazilian Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) is among the three winners.

The global energy crisis, the increase in the prices of energy carriers and their limited supply, as well as climate change make the issue of obtaining energy and possible ways to save it become the leading topic of discussions on various forums.
